English Teachers Who Can't Speak English

by admin on Mon May 05, 2008 3:06 pm
I am sure the author just thought he was cute, trying to sound like an authentic "Bahamian" (which he is), but still... there is no room in the modern Bahamas for junglist talk.

I mean, this fool teaches English at COB. No wonder none of the students can read or write when they graduate.

Pot Calls Kettle Black

by admin on Mon May 05, 2008 3:13 pm
Once again, that dufus of a former PM, Perry Christie, has the audacity to open his mouth in criticism of the FNM, after his five years of appalling governmental abuse.

Christie brands FNM a 'failure'.

Really, could the pot calling the kettle black, be any blacker?

Christie was the biggest joke in the history of Bahamian politics, and that says a lot.

If he had even a small brain, he'd shut the fork up and crawl quietly into a cave and disappear.

I guess he doesn't even have a small brain.

Judge Lyons Not Corrupt Enough?

by admin on Wed May 14, 2008 12:37 pm
Word is Bahamas Supreme Court Justice John Lyons, whose wisdom and respect for the rule of law is unheard of in The Bahamas, has been passed up for Senior Justice by the incompetent Jon Isaacs.

Lyon's friends are saying that this does not sit well with the learned jurist. Some of them are urging the good judge to go on strike.

Why was the best jurist in the nation passed up for promotion.

Because he doesn't "toe the line".

Lyons is not corrupt enough to sway his decisions on the whim of our many crooked lawyers.

Fact is... there is no room in the Bahamas for an honest judge.

FNM Politician Steals Groceries, Extorts Money

by admin on Thu May 15, 2008 9:30 am
There are two sides to every story. But if this side of this story is true, it is a blatant example of abuse of privilege and we hope that when Hubbigity shuffles his cabinet, he shuffles this bee-yatch into the bush.

Apology Demanded by FNM Politician

The owners of City Markets have reportedly paid the sum of $5,000 in damages and $3000 in legal costs because an FNM politician was offended when she went to the food store and the food store refused to take her cheque for 75 dollars.

When the refusal took place she left with the goods anyway but had her lawyer write a letter demanding an apology for refusing her cheque and seeking damages of $5,000. The company offered the apology but no damages. The FNM politician demanded the $5,000 or else and $3,000 in costs. Fearing retaliation from the Government, the company capitulated.

Not bad for a days work, even though the law clearly says that leaving a food store with goods unpaid may well be taking property belonging to another with the permanent intention to deprive.

Rip-Off Rudy, The King of Scams

by admin on Thu May 15, 2008 11:12 am
Bahamian Rudy King is like an Energizer bunny con man. He just keeps going and going. No matter how many people he scams, no matter how many times he is hauled into court... he marches on - and always to the beat a "different" drummer.

Rudy King In The News Again

The press reported during the week that the inimitable and irrepressible Rudy King was back before the Bahamian courts, this time trying to appeal a bankruptcy order before the Court of Appeal.

He failed in his bid to set it aside because the Court of Appeal claims that it does not have jurisdiction to hear an appeal in bankruptcy. This is notwithstanding a ruling in the case of Sidney Stubbs that they do.

Mr. King was told to go away and try another way. The press also reported Mr. King as saying that he intends to go back to the U.S. to face charges of defrauding the Internal Revenue Service of the United States where he, it appears, skipped out of the jurisdiction and is now wanted for doing so. Mr. King says first things first though: the bankruptcy court and then the IRS.

Chamber Prez Blasts Greedy Bahamian Banks

by admin on Sat May 17, 2008 4:00 pm
The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce head is once again calling for commercial banks in this country to offer Bahamians a chance to share in their profits, suggesting the government seriously look at taxing those institutions that refuse to extend that investment opportunity.

Dionisio D'Aguilar asserts that Canadian banks like RBC and Scotia must move to expand the investment horizon for Bahamians, likely through BISX listing, in order to allow them to share in the success of those institutions. Yesterday, he floated the idea of a government incentive program that would essentially tax retail banks that refuse to list, even bank depository receipts, on BISX or to provide some alternative means by which Bahamians can take ownership in their very lucrative businesses.

He points specifically to RBC now celebrating its 100th anniversary in this country. RBC is not listed on the local exchange, although its mortgage house FINCO, 75 percent owed by the Canadian institution, is.

As part of its acquisition of Trinidadian banking titan RBTT, RBC is considering listing on that country's local exchange. There's been no public talk of it doing the same here.

Rapist MP Slams Adults in QC Teen Sex Scandal

by admin on Mon May 19, 2008 11:36 am
Bradley Roberts slams Carl Bethel, Tommy Turnquest and media in teen sex scandal at Queen's College

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Former minister of works Bradley Roberts slammed minister of education Carl Bethel and the press for their treatment in a 'Statutory Rape' incident that took place on Queen's College school campus. Mr. Roberts was speaking to members of the PLAN in Grand Bahama on Tuesday night. The questions pose to Minister Bethel by Roberts confirms a coverup by the minister where Roberts confirmed that the 17 year old boy is indeed the minister of education Carl Bethel's son. Mr. Roberts then asked the following questions;

"Will you confirm or deny that the 17 year boy caught up in the sex scandal at Queens College about a month ago is your son? If affirmative and in light of the press coverage on the same, as Minister for Education why have you not issued a statement to the Press? Will the Minister of Education as painful as it may be for him now make a full statement on this issue?"

Simple Simon

by admin on Tue May 27, 2008 10:14 am
A young Bahamian who goes by the nom de plume of "Simon" writes a column for the Nassau Guardian. His commentary sometimes appears on the Bahama Pundit blog also.

You can tell he is a "young" Bahamian because he is so naive, almost simple.

His latest dissertation concerns the PLP and their "way forward."

He offers some history and observations concerning their election defeat in 2007 and what they would need to do to prepare for the elections in 2012. But he misses the point.

The PLP is a corrupt, quasi-criminal organisation that has no plan, no ethical grounding and no leadership. The party can not be fixed or saved, it needs to be dissolved. Any PLPs remaining, who may have an actual contribution to make to Bahamian politics, should start a new party. And don't name it the "New PLP", cuz we're all tired of that scam too.

Leslie Vanderpool: Acting Like an Actor

by admin on Wed May 28, 2008 9:45 am
I get a kick out of the "Acting Classes" that Leslie Vanderpool is offering. Leslie (who will never let you forget that she is the "founder" of the Bahamas International Film Festival, even though she stole the idea from someone else) knows as much about acting as Perry Christie knows about governance... absolutely nothing!

It is another case of the blind leading the blind.

Leslie left The Bahamas years ago to pursue an acting career in LA. She failed miserably. She never got any serious parts and was even panned for little commercial assignments.

Now, she is going to teach you how to act? Right!

Below, is from the advertisment for Leslie's "Acting" Classes.

"As an actress for over 10 years, I have studied at Lee Strasberg, Shakespeare at Oxford University, England by Fiona Shaw; Alan Rickman and many more. I have been coached by Nicole Kidman’s acting coach Susan Batson; by Tim Phillips, Tony Greco, Raymond Forchion, and casting directors in New York and LA. I have auditioned for over 200 commercials, television shows and Broadway plays, I can HELP YOU HELP YOURSELF by enjoying the process of acting and break into the film industry in The Bahamas and around the world."

First of all, she says she has "auditioned for over 200 commercials, television shows and Broadway plays." How many did she actually get?

"Damn few, if any!" a Hollywood insider told me. Which means that Leslie either stinks at acting or does not know how to conduct a proper audition. If she did, she would have been cast for more commercials and television shows, and we would be seeing her little face all over television. As far as Broadway goes... that's funny.

Which brings me to my second point. Why wouldn't she list her accomplishments, instead of all the people she has taken acting classes from and all the auditions she has been on? Why not list all the commercials, television shows and Broadway plays she has actually appeared in.

Finally, if she has been coached and taught by all those prominent acting coaches, and she still can't get a decent part, then aspiring actors really need to think twice about taking advice from her.

I was told that it was Leslie's failure in Hollywood that brought her back to The Bahamas, hat in hand. Fortunately for her, one of her relatives, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, was a top honcho in the Tourism Ministry at the time. Vince arranged to milk the taxpayers teet to fund Leslie's little annual film festival.

If Leslie Vanderpool was offering these acting classes for free, as a community service, I wouldn't hassle her. But to charge money to teach something you have obvioulsy failed at... is nothing but more over-the-top Bahamian foolishness.
