WARNING! Internet Fraud
The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC) is warning customers of a fraud associated with downloading programmes from the Internet.
It has been discovered that some users are becoming victims of fraud upon downloading a programme in order to view specific content. Actually, the programme disconnects the victim's modem, then reconnects it to a long distance phone scam. The hapless victim receives phone bills for hundreds of dollars worth of international phone calls.
BTC recommends to use care when downloading material from the Internet, use an updated version of reputable virus scanning programme and use BTC's Subscriber Activated Call Blocking feature to prevent unauthorized use of your telephone service.
